This is the first translation of »Le Petit Prince« into any medieval variety of a language. It presents us Antoine de Saint-Exupéry’s classic in Chaucer’s English. For the very fun of it, the translator has rendered the Modern French original as faithfully and consistently as possible in the language spoken and written in late 14th century London, traveling back in time and disregarding more than 600 years of linguistic evolution. As Geoffrey Chaucer wrote: “Ye know ek that in forme of speche is chaunge / Withinne a thousand yeer, and wordes tho / That hadden pris, now wonder nyce and straunge / Us thinketh hem, and yet they spake hem so.”

“Farwel,” quod the fox.
“This is my pryvetee. It is ful simple.
Save oonly with hir hertes mowen men seen cleer.
Thynges worthy been privy to the yen.”
